Sometimes our clients’ remodeling needs require us to re-imagine the whole house. While MAK strives to make the most of existing spaces, there does come a time when walls need to come down, or up, or out. MAK works with our clients to navigate city zoning laws, neighborhood architectural review boards, and the myriad of decisions that must be made for larger projects, all while keeping the clients’ goals and budget in mind.

From Dated to Timeless
MAK’s charge was to unify and update this home in a way that improved the layout and the traffic patterns, bringing the spaces together in cohesive design while adding some distinction and presence to the front of the home. This empty-nest couple moving from spacious and remote ranch to “city living.” They wanted a home with enough land to recreate the privacy of their own home, but near to city amenities as they grew older. This charming home was built in 1922. It is an Arts and Crafts bungalow in Historic Old North Davis. It was intended as a rental home from the start, but was built with extraordinary details in the finish work and is an exemplary model of the Arts and Crafts style (1900-1930’s generally speaking).
